On the day

Before you set off

Ensure you have printed your graduand and guest tickets and gown hire confirmation email which was emailed to you by Ede & Ravenscroft. You will require all of these documents on the day and failure to bring printed copies could result in a delay in checking in and/or collecting your gown.

Upon arrival

The first thing to do upon arrival at the Guildhall is to make your way to the check-in desks in the Livery Hall. Here you will check-in and collect your check-in card, before collecting your cap and gown from the Ede & Ravenscroft team located in the same room. Check-in closes 30 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony so it is very important that you arrive on time. We cannot guarantee that latecomers will be able to partake in the ceremony.

Before the ceremony

Once you're dressed in your gown, you and your guests are free to enjoy the lead up to the ceremony in the surroundings of the Guildhall. If you have booked photography, please make your way to the Old Library where the Ede & Ravenscroft photography team are located. There are different entrances to the Great Hall for graduands and guests and ushers will be on hand to point you all in the right direction. Please remember to have your check-in card to hand, and your guests have their printed tickets, as these will be required to enter the Great Hall. We ask that all graduands and guests are seated no later than ten minutes prior to the start of the ceremony.

During the ceremony

You will be given a seat number upon arrival at check-in - your seat will be assigned according to the order in which you will cross the stage. It is therefore very important that you sit in the seat you have been allocated. Please stand as the Academic Procession enters the Great Hall and remain standing until invited to be seated by the Chancellor or presiding officer. During the ceremony, you'll be called by an usher to move towards the stage in the order that names will be called. As you approach the stage, your name will be double checked by a staff member. When your name is called by the presenter on stage, you'll go up the steps, shake hands* with the Chancellor or presiding officer of the ceremony, and then leave the stage using the further steps before returning to your seat. *Please contact us at graduationceremonies@bpp.com to discuss this if you are unable to shake hands with a male presiding officer due to religious beliefs. Ceremonies usually last for about an hour and 30 minutes.

After the ceremony

After the ceremony you'll be asked to stand as the Academic Procession leaves the Great Hall, followed by you and your newly graduated classmates. Please make your way down to the Crypts, where you can meet your guests and celebrate with a glass of sparkling wine or soft drink, take photos, and congratulate friends before continuing with the rest of your celebrations. After your ceremony, and no later than 5.00pm on the same day, you must remember to return your cap and gown to the Ede & Ravenscroft gown return area in the Main Corridor.
