During the ceremony
You will be given a seat number upon arrival at check-in - your seat will be assigned according to the order in which you will cross the stage. It is therefore very important that you sit in the seat you have been allocated. Please stand as the Academic Procession enters the Great Hall and remain standing until invited to be seated by the Chancellor or presiding officer. During the ceremony, you'll be called by an usher to move towards the stage in the order that names will be called. As you approach the stage, your name will be double checked by a staff member. When your name is called by the presenter on stage, you'll go up the steps, shake hands* with the Chancellor or presiding officer of the ceremony, and then leave the stage using the further steps before returning to your seat. *Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss this if you are unable to shake hands with a male presiding officer due to religious beliefs. Ceremonies usually last for about an hour and 30 minutes.
After the ceremony
After the ceremony you'll be asked to stand as the Academic Procession leaves the Great Hall, followed by you and your newly graduated classmates. Please make your way down to the Crypts, where you can meet your guests and celebrate with a glass of sparkling wine or soft drink, take photos, and congratulate friends before continuing with the rest of your celebrations. After your ceremony, and no later than 5.00pm on the same day, you must remember to return your cap and gown to the Ede & Ravenscroft gown return area in the Main Corridor.
