CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Collaborative article on the impact of Covid-19

Junior Lawyers Against Poverty (JLAP) would like to invite BPP students to do some research on a topic that is in some way related to coronavirus and poverty, and write a paragraph about it.

The idea is to invite you to do some research on a topic that is in some way related to coronavirus and poverty, and write a paragraph about it. I will then compile them all into one collaborative article that can hopefully be published on the BPP Human Rights Blog and the Lawyers Against Poverty Blog.

The maximum word count is 500 words and the deadline is the 13th April. Here are some topic ideas and links to interesting articles to get you started. Please let me know which topic you'd like to do before you start writing (it doesn't have to be on the list).

The virus' impact on:

• Charities/ Pro Bono/ food banks and/or local responses (e.g. by Churches, by the emergence of volunteer networks such as MutualAid etc)
• The most vulnerable, e.g. the homeless, the elderly, the poor, people with disabilities - https://discoversociety.org/2020/03/28/covid-19-and-the-protection-of-people-with-disabilities-in-institutional-settings/
• National responses (of the UK or any other country) in an effort to reduce the economic impact/ protect the vulnerable/ support workers/ prop up health systems.
• International aid and/or international humanitarian response to the crisis.
• State institutions e.g. prisons
• Refugees in Turkey/Greece, especially in light of Greece’s recent decision to refuse all asylum applications.

• War torn areas such as Syria and Gaza and the (optimistic?) idea of cessation of conflict during the pandemic.
• The environment/ a highlighter of mass-consumption mentality.
