Support During Ramadan

BPP Students' Association

Many Muslim students at BPP University will be observing Ramadan. We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment during this important time.

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is a time of reflection, prayer, charity and fasting. Many Muslims do not eat or drink from dawn until sunset.

Daily routines may change. Waking early for pre-dawn meals and staying up later for evening prayers can affect sleep and energy levels. Ramadan ends with Eid al-Fitr, a celebration of communal prayers and time with family and community.

Your Studies During Ramadan

Everyone’s experience of Ramadan is unique. Some students may not require adjustments, while others may benefit from flexibility.

You might notice:

  • Lower energy levels in the afternoon

  • Changes in concentration or sleep patterns

  • The need for short breaks for prayer

  • A preference for recorded or online learning materials

  • A need to request flexibility around assessments or deadlines

If you feel Ramadan may affect your studies, reach out early so we can discuss support options.

Assessments, Attendance and Eid

If fasting affects your attendance, participation or assessments, you can:

Eid al-Fitr is confirmed by the sighting of the moon and may only be known shortly beforehand. If you plan to observe Eid al-Fitr, we encourage you to plan ahead and speak with your Student Support team if you anticipate any impact on attendance or assessments. You can contact them via the hub or visit them in centre.

Supporting Friends During Ramadan

If someone you know is fasting, small acts of understanding can make a big difference:

  • Be patient if they seem tired or need a break

  • Be flexible with group work or meetings

  • Avoid assumptions — not everyone observes Ramadan in the same way

  • Ask respectfully if there is anything you can do to help

Even simple consideration creates a welcoming environment for everyone.
