Practice your debating skills at BPP!
Welcome to the BPP Debating Society! We are a student society who provide a place to develop your confidence and ability in oral argument and public speaking. If you're studying a law course you will be tasked with persuading countless people over the course of your career, from pupillage or training contract interview panels to magistrates and judges (and your clients). There is no better way to improve than to practice, and no better time to start practicing than now!
We run an in-person session at 6pm every Monday in Room 4.7 at BPP's Holborn Campus. Each week we will run a British Parliamentary Debate on a new motion.
If you’re studying outside of London or you can’t make Mondays, we also run an online session at 6pm every Wednesday on Microsoft Teams.
Don't worry - there's no requirement for any experience or preparation in order to attend any session. Everyone is welcome! If you attend a session you will be given opportunities to participate in different ways: to debate as one of the eight speakers, to provide feedback as part of a judging panel, or simply to observe the debate in the audience (and maybe to pick up some tricks from those debating!).
In order to receive communications from us, you can "purchase" a membership from the “join” button above which allows us to add your student email to our mailing list. Don't worry, it's totally free and doesn't commit you to anything. We send out a weekly email every Monday with a review of the week’s sessions, news about events we’re running, and the Teams link to the online session.
