Studying and Working from Home

Learn some tips on studying and working from home

Studying & Working From Home

Studying and working from home can bring many benefits, including reduced commuting time and greater flexibility. However, it can also present challenges such as reduced social interaction, feeling isolated, and having less day-to-day support from colleagues, managers or peers.

To help you stay productive, connected and well while working remotely, we've put together some practical tips and resources below.

Need Support?

Whether you're struggling with your wellbeing, have safeguarding concerns, need mental health support, or would like guidance from Learning Support, our teams are here to help.

Good Working Practices

Plan

Treat your work from home day as you would any other office day. Plan your tasks, stay organised, use lists, and make the most of your calendar to help maintain productivity. Check out our page on Study Skills which helps with organisation.

Think Ahead

Consider your IT requirements, equipment, software and key contacts before starting. Make sure you know how to access support from IT, managers and colleagues when needed.

Create a Workspace

Establish a dedicated workspace that is comfortable, practical and free from distractions. Having a separate area can also make it easier to step away and take breaks.

Take Regular Breaks

Maintain a healthy structure to your day. Schedule breaks away from your workspace and avoid working continuously without rest.

Stay Connected

Working remotely does not mean working alone. Use email, instant messaging, phone calls and video conferencing to stay connected with colleagues, peers and support networks.

Self-Care

Working from home can make it easy for the boundaries between work and personal life to become blurred.

Try to maintain your usual working hours, take breaks, and give yourself permission to switch off at the end of the day. Maintaining a healthy balance is important for both wellbeing and productivity.

Remember

Your employer should support you in your remote working environment and help ensure that it is set up in a way that promotes your safety, productivity and wellbeing.

Any concerns you have should be addressed in the same way as if you were working in the office.

If you are finding things difficult, speak to your manager, skills coach, or one of BPP's Student Welfare & Support teams.
