Alcohol and Conduct

The Law

  • In the UK, the legal drinking age is 18.
  • It is recommended that adults drink no more than 14 units of alcohol a week (6 pints of medium strength beer or 10 small glasses of wine. Spread across multiple days and not binged.)
  • Operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol is illegal and fiercely enforced by law.
  • In many places in the UK consuming alcohol is banned on public transport. Avoid doing this and carrying open alcohol containers while travelling.

BPP’s Policy

Non-academic misconduct will be taken seriously and may be subject to disciplinary action. This misconduct can include criminal offences, endangering health and safety, disrespectful behavior, reputational damage, disruption of university operations, and interference with others’ work or study.

Possible consequences of non-academic misconduct include reprimands, suspensions or permanent exclusions. Students with outstanding disciplinary actions cannot graduate or conclude their studies until resolution.

Students are expected to comply with university policies and regulations and maintain a level of respect for themselves and the broader community of university students, staff and representatives. You can read BPPs student conduct policy here:

Further

Reckless behavior would be ill advised both on university sites and in the community. This behavior can take many forms, including:

  • Property damage
  • Alcohol/drugs
  • Safety and Wellbeing
  • Criminal offences
  • Anti-social/abusive behavior
  • Reputational damage.

Such actions will be taken seriously in that they could potentially harm others or the university reputation. While drinking alcohol is a longstanding part of student life for many, being intoxicated can make you a liability and put yourself and others in danger. Please drink responsibly and exercise moderation.
